Tainanese 台南人 – Burwood NSW Restaurant Review

My wife and I ate at the Tainanese pop-up on the upper floor of Burwood Chinatown, before they found their permanent spot on the street below.

We had the Taiwan Traditional Pork Rice with egg 台南正宗传统肉燥饭 ($13) after a too-long 25 minute wait. The meal featured a perfectly runny fried egg with some finely diced pork over a bed of rice.

The pork was not large in quantity, consisting mostly of fatty pork skin, and not much muscle. It did, nonetheless, have a great flavour, tasting strongly of mushrooms and not overpowered by salt or soy.

The meal was overall delicious and well priced at $13, which is a price at which not many meals can be had in Sydney these days, however the quantity of the meat topping did leave something to be desired.

I would think that a modest price increase to $15 or $16, with an appropriate increase in the quantity of meat, would be an acceptable sacrifice for most.
